Description

Royal Grammas, Gramma loreto, are also known as the fairy basselet.  These are primarily imported from Haiti, and are one of the most popular and beautiful fish from the Caribbean.  They thrive on most foods, are not aggressive towards other fish, and don’t get real big.  They do very well in reef tanks and will not bother corals and anemones.  The average size is about 1.5 inches.  Unlike the grammas from Brazil, these can be kept together in aquaria and although they’ll spar with each other, it is a non-lethal sparring.  They are very easy to care for and will thrive on most common marine fish foods.

Please Note:  Any new fish purchased from us or from a local pet store should to be quarantined.  All fish from anywhere in the wild can be possible carriers of bacteria and protozoa that can lead to an infection in your system, so we always recommend that you use some sort of quarantine system prior to adding them to your system.  If you have a fish only system and can medicate the whole system, you may not need a separate quarantine tank.  If you have a reef system that cannot be medicated, a good ultraviolet sterilization system should prevent any kind of disease outbreak.  We medicate our system for bacterial infections and protozoans, but because we don’t always hold our fish for long periods of time, there is no way to be sure all the protozoan cysts have been killed.  A little bit of prevention will save you lots of trouble down the line.

Arrived motionless and upside down in bag, really gave me a start lol. Put it in tank and it immediately started swimming normally and hid in a cave. . After a day or two hiding it is now out and about claiming a corner of the tank , I love its color and it eats pellets and frozen food.

Ordered two only one made. No fault of KP, CLEARLY UPS. He handed the box dripping and I knew there would be a casualty somewhere. Everything else arrived intact, healthy and full of life.
Anemones, Ricordea, Shrimp, Fish and then some!
The survivor acclimated quickly. Awesome to watch. Never feed new arrivals the first day. Always wait until everyone settles in and enjoy naming, etc. Thanks KP and I will order from the KEYS AGAIN.

Arrived healthy and happy, it ate once 2 days after I got it then it refused to eat for two weeks! 😳 but now it’s eating like a pig and the happiest fish ever! If your having trouble feeding it don’t worry these guys are as tough as all get out

Fish arrived in excellent shape! He took a few days to start eating. Had me a little bit concerned but after a few weeks he’s becoming one one of my favorites, not aggressive but will not be bullied by my velvet Damselfish either. Great fish!

  5. Steven (verified owner)

Great personality. Spunky and full of life. He immediately comes to the front of the tank whenever I come to see whats going on in the reef. Reminds me of a freshwater Betta without the attitude.

I have always loved this fish. I mean who wouldnt? Its a beautiful striking color combination! I received a very healthy beautiful ‘Royal Grandma’ as my 6 year old calls it.
It is kinda shy but darts around when we feed the tank. You cant mistake it in the tank its so bright and distinct.
Order this fish from KPAquatics, peaceful, colorful and most importantly healthy!
Very well packaged in an insulated box and heat pads!

I have never ordered and actual fish online before and was a little hesitant. I trust Ken to send the best livestock however, and he did not let me down. Arrived healthy and ate after the second day.

  8. Lisa Schwamkrug

I love this little guy! He arrived healthy and happy and is an absolute pig! He was eating the first day! The first couple of days he was a little shy and hung out in a rock he had staked out. Now he is out all the time and watches me as much as I watch him. These little fish are wonderful reef fish, get along with everyone, and add vibrant color and personality. Packed with great care and arrived healthy.

would never have a reef tank without one of these guys. Tons of bright color and personality. not aggressive, easy to feed. Great fish.

  10. Michael Berry

Great fish for any tank. They are not very aggressive and are tough as nails. Every fish I have ever ordered from here arrived in excellent condition.

Kooky little beauties. First fish I’ve seen that prefer to “sleep” either lying on their sides or vertically with their noses pointed down! I got two, and the larger one — the more adventurous — even SWIMS on its side. Enticed them out of hiding with food and now the larger one things it should be fed every time I walk by the tank. Silly fish! 😀 Fun to watch, and tons of color to enjoy.

Bought one of these in July and it is doing great. It has it’s place that it staked out that it calls home. It was shy at first but its well adjusted now.
