I added 15 lbs of aquacultured live rock to my sump to help kick off cycling and promote microbiome maturation in a 120 gallon display tank. I let the rocks sit in a bucket of circulating salt water for a month before placing them in the sump’s refugium – that got rid of the ocean shoreline smell. The rocks were sprinkled with patches of coralline algae (still waiting for that to show up in display tank, but it’s only been 6 weeks) and came with many small passengers that just keep revealing themselves – feather dusters, crabs (type unknown), spaghetti worm, and bristle worms (the good kind, one of which found its way to my display tank via the return pump). Most recently, my display tank is teaming with copepods that could not have come from any other source. I’m very pleased with the product!
